The White-rumped Vulture connects bird identification with one of Nepal’s important conservation stories. Bird Conservation Nepal describes this species as Critically Endangered and explains the role of veterinary-drug safety, monitoring and community action in vulture conservation.
Identification clues
A contrasting pale rump is a useful feature to check, but a partial view of a large soaring bird is not enough for a confident identification. Compare body proportions, underwing pattern and the whole upper surface using several reference photographs.
Why veterinary medicines matter
Vultures feed on carcasses. Bird Conservation Nepal links the severe decline of several South Asian vultures to diclofenac used in treating livestock. Conservation efforts include monitoring veterinary drugs, reducing poisoning risks and providing safe food.
Observe without disturbance
Use binoculars or a distant photograph. Keep feeding birds and nesting sites undisturbed, and do not publish exact nest locations. An uncertain model result should remain a possible identification until field evidence is checked.
Using Nepal Bird ID
White-rumped Vulture is one of this model’s 85 trained species. A photo result offers three suggestions and model scores; those scores are not verified probabilities. Compare the visible features and sourced references before recording a sighting.
