Your information

Privacy, explained.

How the current website uses your photograph, field notes and external sources.

Photo identification

Your selected photograph is processed in your browser. The current identification and Grad-CAM features do not send the photograph to our server. The model files download to your device when required. A download you choose to save remains under your control.

Your field notebook

Notes are stored in this browser using local storage. They are not a shared database of sightings and are not independently verified. You can delete individual entries or export a copy. Clearing browser data can remove notes.

Browser storage belongs to a website address. Notes saved on our earlier workers.dev address do not automatically appear on birdnepal.com. Export them from the old address before switching.

Reference sources

Species introductions and reference photographs may request information from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. Fonts are requested from Google Fonts. Loading an external image or following an external link shares normal connection information, such as your IP address, with that provider. Photographs have individual source and licence credits.

Nepal live

Our Worker requests public eBird data with a private API key. Public hotspot records and the returned public display names used for daily community rankings may appear here. Our recent-report response does not relay observer identifiers or precise coordinates. eBird's own policies apply to its data and linked pages.

Hosting and service operation

Cloudflare hosts this site and processes network requests. Its operational and security systems may process connection information. This release adds no advertising trackers or third-party audience analytics. See Cloudflare's privacy policy and Cornell Lab's privacy information.

Future tools

The planned bird chatbot and research tools are coming soon. Their data handling will be explained before those tools become available.
